Winston & Strawn recently announced the addition of Juan Azel to the firm's Miami office, where he joined as a partner in the Transactions Department and a member of the Financial Services Practice.

Juan focuses his practice in FinTech, banking and consumer, and financial crime regulatory compliance. He has 25 years of both in-house and external counsel experience assisting domestic and foreign financial institutions and FinTech companies in regulatory compliance, direct and third-party risk management, supervision and examinations, governance, internal audit, investments, M&A, lending, capital markets, and corrective action/remediation responses to supervisory concerns and enforcement actions.

"We are thrilled to have landed someone as talented and knowledgeable in the fintech space as Juan. His addition will further enhance our ability to provide financial services clients with best-in-class legal services," said Partner and Co-Chair of Winston's Financial Services Practice Carl A. Fornaris in the press release announcing his arrival.

"I saw that Winston has a nationwide platform with practice areas that align very well to a fintech model. What I mean is not just regulatory compliance, but risk management but corporate transactional work, finance obviously, M&A work," Juan told Law360. "Winston had incredible expertise at all areas to be able to provide what I refer to as—and I'm not sure if anybody's ever called it this—'fintech law in a box.'"
