Partner Benjamin Bathgate will attend the 2nd Annual Crypto and Digital Asset Fraud & Recovery conference in London, UK on Thursday, April 25th and Friday, April 26th, 2024. The conference is hosted by the C5 Group of Companies, and is designed to enhance attendees' understanding of tracing complexities across the chain, in addition to providing the opportunity to engage, network, and benchmark with global experts in crypto and digital asset fraud & recovery.

Benjamin will present a session titled "DAOs: Overcoming the Challenges to Managing Clients and Preventing Fraud in a Purely Decentralized 'Entity'". DAOs are known to operate as a community with automated efficiency, transparency and no central authority – based completely on trust and transparency – which in theory minimizes the risk of stolen funds. However, they are also very vulnerable to hackers that have the ability to exploit vulnerabilities and the lack of security when managing crypto and other digital funds.

Partner Raj Kehar will attend The Eight-Minute Municipal Lawyer 2024, an online-only program that will be hosted by the Law Society of Ontario on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024.

Working with expert witnesses is minefield of ethical and practical problems. Attendees will learn how to navigate the tricky terrain of experts, from deciding whether to retain an expert, to drafting the initial retainer letter, to preparing witnesses for examinations, to qualifying and examining a witness at trial.

22 May 2024 Course: Toronto Canada

Partner Michael Swartz will serve as an instructor during the Bid Theory and Bid Practice module of the Ontario Association of Architects' (OAA) 2024 Spring Semester Admission Course. Michael's module will be presented on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024.

Michael's session will review the legal framework in which construction bidding – and other forms of procurement – are carried on. The session will also review a set of Instructions to Bidders in an effort to demonstrate how theory and practice merge. The rationale for various clauses in the Instructions to Bidders will be explained.

Co-Managing Partner Denise Baker will serve as Co-Chair of the Steering Committee and a speaker during the Cambridge Forum on Land Use Planning. The forum will be held in Cambridge, Ontario on May 23-24, 2024.

Using candid, seminar-style discussions at this annual meeting, participants from municipalities, private practice and the provincial government examine trends and developments on the most pressing issues facing the industry.

Denise will speak during the forum's first session, "Looking at What Has and Is Happening with Legislative Changes and Planning Reforms", which is intended to share public and private sector perspectives on the current pattern of regular legislative change and planning reform being introduce by Ontario, in addition to the impact of development applications on policy planning.
