Partner Ben Kates will take part in “Second Chair, Not Second Fiddle”, a hybrid virtual/in-person program being held by The Advocates’ Society on September 28, 2022, from 1:00 – 4:30 p.m. The program will consist of several panels, all designed to prepare second chairs with the tools they need to succeed, covering topics such as how to establish roles and expectations from the beginning of a file, developing an effective trial action plan, working with witnesses and preparing them for trial, and more.

Nadia Chiesa will present a section during “Civil Litigation Refresher 2022”, a webcast-only program in the Ontario Law Society’s “Continuing Professional Development” series to be held on October 4, 2022. The program will guide civil litigators through the essentials of client interactions, drafting, best practices for trial, focus on the latest development in the civil litigation field, updates on major cases, and management tips for successfully managing the changing landscape of the practice.

Lucy Main will attend the “Ontario Tax Conference” as a panel speaker on. Hosted by the Canadian Tax Foundation, the conference will be held across two days on October 24th – 25th.

Lucy’s panel, “Trust Reporting Requirements under the Income Tax Act & Beneficial Ownership Disclosure under the OBCA”, will be held on the first day of the conference. The panel will focus on the evolving nature of information reporting regimes, and will provide an overview of some of the reporting for which clients are responsible in order for lawyers to give timely advice. Topics will include recent changes to the Ontario corporate system, an overview of beneficial ownership disclosure in different Canadian jurisdictions, and the new trust reporting requirement.
