Lloyd Freeman, Buchanan’s Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, will be speaking at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Philadelphia office Black History Month celebration. Lloyd will be weighing in on various diversity and inclusion trends as it relates to the legal industry and the broader Philadelphia community.

Lloyd Freeman, Buchanan’s Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, will be serving as the keynote speaker for the RWJBarnabas Health & RWJ Somerset Black Professionals Network’s joint Black History Month presentation “Together we can be the Dream.”

Keith Lee, Erin McLaughlin and Jason Murtagh, attorneys in the firm's Labor & Employment section, will be leading a program for members of the Association of Corporate Counsel entitled "Navigating Pay Transparency: Effective Strategies for Compliance."

Sahel Assar, counsel and chair of the firm's Blockchain and Crypto Assets Practice Group, will be speaking at the 23^rd Annual U.S. and Europe Tax Practice Trends Conference cosponsored by the ABA Tax Section, IBA Taxes Committee and IFA-USA. Sahel will serve as co-chair for the panel "Tax in Times of Turbulence: Case Study on FTX."

Lloyd Freeman, Buchanan’s Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, will be serving as a keynote speaker for The Rainey Day Foundation's Annual Scholarship Black Out Gala. The Rainey Day College Foundation is a nonprofit educational service organization providing resources, mentoring and financial support, where applicable, to college students, to bridge the needs gap from enrollment to graduation.

Philip Hirschfeld, counsel in the firm’s Tax section, will be speaking at the American Bar Association's Real Property Section National CLE Conference. Philip's session "To Defer or Not to Defer, That is the Question" will discuss how like kind exchanges are a valuable tool in selling real estate tax free. Specific topics will include:

• Basic requirements of a like kind exchange
• Forward and reverse exchanges
• Build to suit exchanges
• Strategies to address partnerships disposing of real estate where the partners have different views as to how to sell the real estate
  
  • Use of drop and swap transactions
  • Special allocators of income
• Transfer tax implications will be explored
• Use of TICs and Delaware Statutory Trusts

Gina Polo, shareholder in the firm's Immigration group, will be speaking at the American Immigration Lawyers Association's 2023 Annual Conference. Gina will serve as a panelist for the session "Getting by with a Little Help from My Friends," discussing the common challenges faced by new immigration lawyers and the various resources provided by AILA that can provide assistance during the transition.
