We are pleased to inform you of the announcement last week by the Judicial Commission of Mr Gerhard Wallbank as an acting Judge of the Commercial Division of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in the BVI, for a period of three years with effect from 14 October 2019. The continuity that Wallbank J's three year appointment will bring will ensure that litigation is capable of being case managed by the Judge that will hear it, and his appointment will be particularly welcomed by office holders and creditors, as enabling the Court to supervise insolvency processes more effectively.

Mr Justice Wallbank has considerable experience as a leading Court-room advocate and as an adviser in relation to commercial, insolvency, fraud, asset tracing, and trust litigation and arbitration. He has acted as a High Court Judge since 2012, in the Commercial Division, and in the High Court in the BVI, as well as in Nevis, Grenada and in Antigua. In Antigua he has served as the designated Judge concerning Stanford International Bank (In Liquidation). In addition to being admitted in Anguilla, he is also admitted in England & Wales, New Zealand and St Kitts & Nevis.

The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court's Commercial Division of the British Virgin Islands' (BVI Commercial Court) was established in May 2009. The Commercial Court is capable of hearing cases from any of the nine member jurisdictions of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court and specialises in cross-border and high value commercial, company, trusts and insolvency law matters.
