On November 1, 2016, the Dutch government submitted a proposal (source document in Dutch) to update
legislation regarding intelligence and security services in
response to technological developments in the area of
telecommunications, Wi-Fi networks, and the use of messaging apps.
The intelligence and security services will be monitored by an
independent commission. According to the Dutch government, a
privacy impact assessment was prepared during the preparation of
the proposal, and feedback was incorporated accordingly.
