Harneys is pleased to report three judicial appointments to the BVI Commercial Court which are designed to increase the capacity of the Court in 2017.

Justices Gerhard Wallbank and Roger Kaye QC are appointed to terms commencing 1 February 2017 and Justice John Carrington QC until 31 January 2017.  Practitioners of the court will be familiar with Justices Carrington and Wallbank, and Justice Kaye is welcomed from the English Chancery Court. The three appointments bring considerable depth and expertise to the BVI Commercial Court.

Andrew Thorp, head of Harneys' BVI Litigation practice, commented: "These appointments provide further momentum and expertise to the BVI Commercial Division and enhance the Court's ability to deal with complex cases promptly and effectively."

The BVI Commercial Court is a division of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court and specialises in cross-border and high value commercial, company, trusts and insolvency law matters. Since opening the BVI Commercial Court in 2009 the volume of commercial litigation and insolvency has increased in the BVI. The Court has dealt with numerous cases since its inception and continues to play an important role in the development of the BVI's financial services sector.

Harneys' BVI litigation practice has acted on the majority of all large scale commercial dispute and insolvency cases before the BVI Commercial Court. The firm's global litigation practice also comprises teams in other key offshore centres as well as London, Hong Kong and Cyprus.
