Subscriptions

This module is designed to allow access to subscription-based services such as newsletters. The module typically process a monthly deduction from the customer's Credit Card as this minimises the risk to the merchant and the customer. This module was used by The Guardian Newspaper to sell 'Premium Membership' access to its Ashes 97 site.

Pay-To-View

This module is designed to give paid access to a document or a set of documents and is ideal for those who wish to sell 'soft goods' such as documents over the Internet. The user will only be able to download software after their Credit Card payment has been validated. This facility is currently being used by JCP to sell access to its white paper 'Electronic Commerce: Analysis of a new business paradigm'.

Goods Fulfilment

DataCash recommends that deductions are not made from a Credit Card until goods are ready to ship. This reduces the administration involved in chargebacks and refunds to the card where product ordered is not in stock or is no longer available for whatever reason. The Goods Fulfilment module is designed to interact with the systems of fulfilment houses for the confirmation of delivery of goods. When a customer places an order for physical goods, the module performs all the normal on-line checks on their Credit Card but without deducting any money from the card. When the goods are ready for despatch, the DataCash system handles the deduction from the customer's Credit Card. The system is designed to allow for both full and partial fulfilment, allowing the dispatch of part orders secure in the knowledge that these have been paid for.

Security

High levels of data security

DataCash has a number of security features which address the concerns of electronic commerce via the Internet and which combine to make it many times more secure than the traditional uses of a credit card, such as telephone or mail order.

A. Encrypted Transactions

Communication between the user and DataCash is encrypted using the SSL mechanism built into the customer's browser. Encryption is used on all pages within the DataCash system.

B. Protecting the Buyers' Data

The DataCash server sits behind a corporate firewall. Access to this machine is strictly controlled, further preventing unauthorised access to personal data. Credit Card details are stored on the DataCash server in an encrypted format.

C. Real-Time Transaction Confirmation

All Credit Card transactions are completed in real-time. After the purchase has been confirmed, an immediate connection is made to NatWest to verify the card and amount, so that authorisation is given before the order is completed.
