On Monday 18th February, the Malta Stock Exchange
announced the approval of Joh. Berenberg, Grossler & Co KG of
Hamburg, Germany as a Member of the Exchange.
Berenberg Bank, as is it popularly known, will be the
13th Member of the Exchange, and signifies an
interesting development in the history of the Exchange since it is
the first international member of the Exchange. This development is
the result of the internationalization strategy adopted by the
Malta Stock Exchange and the international networks that it has
established through the Clearstream Banking custodial relationship,
and the Xetra trading platform that was adopted in July 2012.
This new development, together with the fact that an increasing
number of unlisted European companies are using the Depository for
registry as well as custodial services, augers well for the
development of new business for the Exchange.
