MADRID, January 19, 2000 -- The law firm of Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue today announced the opening of its newest international office in Madrid, Spain.

Juan Tena and Luis Munoz will join Jones Day as Partners, along with eight other lawyers joining as Of Counsel and associates; all formerly practiced at the Madrid law firm Tena, Munoz y Asociados, where they established a recognized expertise in mergers and acquisitions, securities law, banking and structured finance, commercial litigation and international arbitration.

Tena will serve as Partner-in-Charge of the Madrid office. Prior to forming Tena, Munoz y Asociados with Mr. Munoz in 1993, Tena was a partner at J. y B. Cremades y Asociados. He received his law degree in 1973 from Complutense University of Madrid. He has served as adviser to the Minister's Cabinet, Ministry of Education and Science, and as Head of the President's Cabinet of the Spanish Federation of Business Organizations.

Jones Day Managing Partner Patrick F. McCartan remarked that Spain has one of the strongest economies in the European Union, "the result of privatization of major Spanish companies in the telecommunications, energy and financial sectors. The market-based companies that have emerged from this process are strong, active players in Spain and other markets, and they increasingly require the services of international law firms.

"Add the fact that Spain has become a magnet for both inbound and outbound investment," McCartan continued, "and it's clear as to why we chose to establish a presence in this pivotal part of Europe."

Jones Day is an international law firm with 23 locations in centers of business and finance throughout the world. With approximately 1,300 lawyers, it ranks among the world's largest law firms.
