Previously, we announced the launch of SPREG (Scottish Parliament Renewable Energy Group) attended by David Bone. Since then we can report that the Renewables Industry in Scotland has been boosted by several Government initiatives. First, the Utilities Act 2000 has now been enacted by the UK Parliament. Second, the Scottish Executive has now put in place new Planning Policy Guidelines for Renewable Energy Developments with WJM being one of only two legal firms to take part in the Consultation process. Finally, the Scottish Parliament now has a new Renewables Obligation going through the Consultation process and WJM are the only lawyers to have provided input.

SPREG is supported by the Scottish Renewables Forum (SRF), the major lobbying and information group for the renewables industry in Scotland. WJM incorporated SRF and act as Company Secretary and Legal Adviser to them.

David Bone commented 'This role puts us in prime position to monitor all developments in the industry at an exciting time for renewables in Scotland. Renewable energy research and development is proceeding apace and we are seeing many new projects come on stream.'

'Currently, I am working on the financing of an alternative energy project, an energy from waste project, wind farm developments, helping with potential windfarm sites and providing legal advice to SRF and similar bodies, in addition to the monitoring of the new legislation. The increased interest in renewables is very welcome.'
