The Dallasnews.com reported that Whinstone (with data facilities in the Netherlands, Sweden, and Louisiana) “says it will build the world’s largest bitcoin mining facility in Milam County …The 100-acre data center project is set to start this month in the town of Rockdale. The $150 million project is expected to create 200 jobs.”  The November 1, 2019 article entitled “Huge data center project in the works at former Alcoa site in Milam County” included these comments from Lyle Theriot (Whinstone US, COO, and Co-Founder):

Building the world’s largest bitcoin Mining facility in Texas is a big step for our fast-growing company and a great success for the blockchain industry in the United States,…

The conditions are excellent, and our customers’ demand is overwhelming.

We see our new facility as a game-changer in the industry and are excited to expand on U.S. soil.

I guess the plans changed since my July 20, 2018 blog “Big News for Central Texas - Chinese Bitcoin Mining to Start at Shutdown Alcoa Aluminum Factory” when Beijing based Bitmain Technologies announced it was using the old Factory:

The site of the bitcoin mining operation is next door to Dallas-based Luminant’s Sandow power plant, which closed in January.

Great news for Milam County, Texas!
