The SEC announced the new Office of the Advocate for Small Business Capital Formation will host a roundtable on May 6th, which will address, among other things, challenges faced by companies located outside of the "financing hot spots" in the United States in raising capital. The roundtable, which will be held at the SEC, will be webcast.

The SEC also recently announced the new members of the Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee. The Committee will hold its first meeting on the day of the roundtable. The Committee was established by the SEC Small Business Advocate Act of 2016, and is designed to provide a formal mechanism for the SEC to receive advice and recommendations on rules, regulations and policy matters relating to small businesses, including smaller public companies. The Committee replaces the Advisory Committee on Small and Emerging Companies, whose term expired in 2017.
