Intellectual Property Partner Dyan Finguerra-DuCharme appeared on CNBC Business News to discuss the increasing number of imposters hijacking well-known luxury brands on e-commerce sites and replacing bona fide products with counterfeits.

Speaking with reporter Andrea Day, Finguerra-DuCharme explained what's behind the startling rise in fake goods and how so many are winding up on e-commerce sites like Amazon: "[Imposters] file a document with the U.S Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) that says 'our email address has changed.' They then go to the Amazon brand registry" and, using the fake email address, claim to be the rightful owner of the brand.

Once Amazon confirms that the email address matches what's on record with the USPTO, the imposter is given access to Amazon's tools, which allow them to take down legitimate products and ensure that their own counterfeit products are sold in their place.

"It's unbelievable how easy it's become," Finguerra-DuCharme told CNBC.
