On August 4, Mark Sableman spoke at the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum in St. Louis, on the topic "Copyright and Photography: What you should know."

In his presentation, Mark displayed copies of photographs and art involved in many landmark, notable, and interesting photography copyright cases, including cases in which the court explained at length what aspects of photographs were protected under copyright law.

His presentation also referred to the Hall of Fame's recent exhibit of the photography of Vivian Maier, a woman whose intriguing and evocative street photography was discovered only after she had died. As previously explained in a June 2017 In Focus blog post, Maier's work highlights the distinction between ownership of physical photographs and ownership of the copyrights; those who own her prints and negatives do not have the right to exploit them.

A video of Mark's talk will be available on the Hall of Fame's website.

The International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum was founded in 1965 and previously located in California and Oklahoma. It moved to St. Louis in 2013.
