On April 13, 2018, the Undersecretary of Defense for Research
and Engineering stated that the Department of Defense planned
to create a "joint artificial intelligence center." The
undersecretary described the center as "crosscutting across
services in the intelligence community" and explained that he
would report to Congress in mid-summer on details such as how the
center would be created, where it would be located, and who would
be in charge.
