On February 6, the State Department announced a proposal to create a new
cybersecurity bureau. The State Department proposed that the new
office be led by a Senate-confirmed assistant secretary, who would
"formulate and coordinate a strategic approach necessary to
address current and emerging cyber security and digital economic
challenges."
