The Federal Trade Commission ("FTC") requested a fiscal year 2019 budget of $306.3 million. This request is approximately the same as the agency's FY 2018 request. The number reflects an increase in funding for expert witnesses in accordance with the expansion of complex investigations and litigation matters.

The FTC also published a new strategic plan for FY 2018 to 2022, highlighting the following goals:

  • Protect consumers from unfair and deceptive practices in the marketplace;
  • Maintain competition to promote a marketplace free from anticompetitive merges, business practices and public policy outcomes; and
  • Advance the FTC's performance through excellence in managing resources, human capital and information technology.
