The SEC proposed a rule change that would allow for Investors Exchange-listed securities to be designated as "covered securities" (i.e., securities listed on registered exchanges that have listing standards "substantially similar" to those of registered exchanges that are already exempted (e.g., the NYSE)). The rule change would exempt IEX-listed securities from state registration requirements, pursuant to Securities Act  Section 18(b) (see  previous coverage).

The proposed rule change was published in the Federal Register on July 21, 2017. Comments on the proposal are due by August 21, 2017.
