In its stated efforts to streamline the I-94 process, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has made it easier for travelers to check the end of their lawful admission period in the United States.

CBP announced that as of May 31, Visa Waiver Program travelers to the U.S. can check the I-94 website to verify the last day they can lawfully remain in the country. CBP stated that it will later expand this electronic service to other nonimmigrant travelers to the US.

The Traveler Compliance Check allows travelers to enter basic personal information into the I-94 website to either find out their last possible departure date or learn that they have overstayed (remained in the US beyond the lawful period they were granted), in which case the CBP website provides information about the next steps travelers should take. It remains to be seen whether this new system will incorporate information relating to the filing of extensions or adjustments, which will come into play once the system is expanded beyond the Visa Waiver category.
