The FINRA Foundation published the results of its Investors in the United States 2016 report, which revealed that more than half of the respondents use financial professionals, but their knowledge of investment concepts is lacking and generational divides exist. The report offers a detailed analysis of the responses of 2,000 investors in non-retirement accounts from across the United States.

The survey is a new component of the FINRA Foundation's National Financial Capability Study ("NFCS"). FINRA stated that the researchers explored topics such as respondents' (i) relationships with financial professionals, (ii) understanding of fees charged for investment services, (iii) use of investment information sources, (iv) general attitudes toward investing, and (v) investment literacy.
