The SEC approved a FINRA proposal, as amended, to eliminate or reduce several of the filing requirements applicable to FINRA members' communications with the public pursuant to FINRA Rules 2210 (Communications with the Public), 2213 (Requirements for the Use of Bond Mutual Fund Volatility Ratings), and 2214 (Requirements for the Use of Investment Analysis Tools). The rule amendments were established in response to a 2014 review, that FINRA conducted, of the rules regarding communications with the public. As a result of this review, FINRA concluded that while such rules had met their intended investor protection objectives, they could benefit from some updating to better align the investor protection benefits with the corresponding economic impacts. The final amendments were published in the Federal Register.

The final amendments, as modified by Partial Amendment No. 1, were approved on an accelerated basis. Comments on the final amendments, as modified by Partial Amendment No. 1, must be submitted by October 11, 2016.
