Westport-based business accelerator The Refinery has partnered with Uber and the Ewing Marlon Kauffman Foundation to create a pitch competition for startups with at least one woman in a leadership position. Winners receive mentorship from investors and $120,000 in prize money.

To be eligible to participate, competing companies must demonstrate a good product-market fit, be scalable, and have at least one woman in a leadership role. Applications are due on October 20, 2016.

On October 26, 2016, chosen participants will climb into an Uber and have seven minutes to pitch their ideas to investors. Investors will provide seven minutes of feedback. Stamford, CT, New Haven, CT, Baltimore, MD, Kansas City, MO, Providence, RI and Washington, D.C will host the competition.

On November 16, 2016, approximately twenty semi-finalists will be invited to pitch their ideas at the "Fueling the Growth" event in Stamford, CT. The top ten finalists will be ranked. Grant money will be given to the top companies.
