In the July 18, 2016, Federal Register, USDA's
APHIS proposed to amend its regulations to remove bovine spongiform
encephalopathy-related import restrictions on live sheep and goats
and most of their products and add import restrictions related to
transmissible spongiform encephalopathies for certain wild,
zoological, or other non-bovine ruminant species. The import
conditions are based on internationally accepted scientific
literature and are intended to align U.S. regulations with
guidelines set out in the World Organization for Animal
Health's Terrestrial Animal Health Code. Comments
are due September 16, 2016.
