Although many CEO's and top executives do not create a road to the top of the company from the corporate counsel office, new trends suggest that an increasing number of high-profile businesses are choosing former corporate counsel members to take the reins.

"It is definitely happening and I think it will continue to happen because more and more the role of general counsel has changed," said Fox Rothschild's Stephanie Resnick. An increasing number of companies need top executives with expertise in risk management—something that corporate counsels have, she noted.
