Marcel L. Groen was featured in The Philadelphia Inquirer article, "Montco Democratic Head To Lead State Party." Full text can be found in the September 12, 2015, issue, but a synopsis is below.

Marcel Groen has been elected chair of the statewide Democratic Party. Groen, the longtime head of the Montgomery County Democrats, will have an important role heading into next year's national elections.

Groen's immediate focus, however, is on the voting that will take place this November.

"The most important thing now are the Supreme Court races," Groen said. "They are extremely important, from a political perspective, because of redistricting. Pennsylvania is one of the most gerrymandered states in the country."

Groen will also serve as chair of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in 2016.

"It will be a real honor to be head of the party ahead of that," said Groen.

Among Groen's first proposals was to have representatives from various regions issue reports at state gatherings so that "people in Montgomery County are learning what's happening in Montour County." This interaction would "make it easier for us to work together," Groen said.
