House Votes To Bar NSA From Weakening Encryption Standards

On June 4, the House of Representatives voted in favor of an amendment to a spending bill (H.R. 2578) that would prohibit NIST from
cooperating with the National Security Agency ("NSA") or
the Central Intelligence Agency ("CIA") to weaken
encryption standards. The amendment prohibits NIST from consulting
with NSA or CIA "to alter cryptographic or computer standards,
except to improve information security."
