July 4 was the 49th anniversary of the Freedom of Information Act.  In conjunction with that anniversary, a new program was launched by the Obama administration focused on making responses to FOIA requests available to the public.  Seven agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency, will pilot the program over the next six months.  Although EPA has been publishing its FOIA responses online since 2013, the new policy formalizes that process, and will likely lead to more consistent approaches by federal agencies in how such information is made available.  For more information on federal Open Government initiatives and the new FOIA "release to one is release to all" program, please click here.
