Fourth Circuit Upholds Conviction Under CFAA Relating To Former Employee's Unauthorized Access To Employer's Computer System

On December 24, 2014, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a jury conviction of a defendant for 12
felony violations of the CFAA for accessing his former
employer's computer server without authorization. The defendant
had joined a competing firm and was using his former login
credentials to obtain information relating to contract bids in
order to obtain a competitive advantage for his new firm.
