Following its landmark 2013 decision striking down part of the
Defense of Marriage Act as unconstitutional, the Supreme Court
earlier today decided to take on what will likely be the definitive
ruling on the issue of same-sex marriage. By addressing the
state-by-state divide on same-sex marriage, the Court will
determine whether a state-imposed ban on same-sex marriage is
unconstitutional.
Specifically, the Court will be reviewing a Sixth Circuit
decision upholding same-sex marriage bans from several states,
which conflicts with four other circuit court rulings. Arguments
are expected to be heard in late April and a decision by the end of
June.
