As 2014 nears an end, many people's thoughts turn toward the coming year and the inevitable slate of New Year's Resolutions.  Setting aside the typical "I'll exercise more, eat less, drink less" resolutions, and eschewing the self-serving "I'll be a better person" resolutions, I'm instead focusing on those resolutions applicable only to attorneys practicing in the oil and gas and energy sectors.

In that vein, I resolve to:

  • Stop looking at the price of oil every 15 minutes.
  • Stop complaining about how "fracking" is spelled.
  • Attend 2 less parties at NAPE (oh, who am I kidding – 1 less party).
  • Find a good pronunciation guide for Pennsylvania townships.
  • Keep smiling and looking for the positives of lower gas prices.
  • Remember that the sun and wind are our friends, not our mortal enemies.

And the most important resolution of all:

  • I resolve to spend more quality time with family and friends.

Happy New Year!
