As part of the Fiscal Year 2015 Budget, the Commonwealth has established a tax amnesty program.  The amnesty period will last from September 2 through October 31, 2014.  If a taxpayer pays delinquent taxes during the amnesty period, the Department of Revenue will waive any associated penalties.  The program will cover unpaid sales and use, room and occupancy, special fuels, gasoline, and withholding taxes, among others.  Corporate excise taxes, however, are excluded.

The Department intends to mail notices to qualified taxpayers on September 2.  Although still unclear, the Department will likely offer amnesty only to those taxpayers it notifies.  Such was the case in 2009 and again in 2010, when the Department implemented similar amnesty programs.  If you receive a notice from the Department offering amnesty, you should seriously consider participating in the program.
