Lawyers on recent panel at the American Bankruptcy Institute's spring meeting answered questions about social media's impact on rules of conduct and evidence in bankruptcy.
Asked if LinkedIn invitations from a sitting judge should be accepted, the panel said they should not be.
According to Richard Meth, such a request could even place a requirement on the lawyer to report the judge.
The panel also warned that care should be taken with attorney-review website AVVO, which allows clients and peers to review attorneys.
"I'm particularly scared of AVVO," Meth said.
Meth noted that when he reviewed his profile on the site, the wrong law firm was listed, but he did not want to update the information for fear that it could be deemed he was vouching for the listing and monitoring it.
