By a razor thin margin, the citizen petition that will ban hydraulic fracturing in the City of Broomfield passed by 17 votes.  Initially, it was thought that the ban had been defeated.  Based on unofficial results from election night, the petition was 13 votes short of passing.  As a result of outstanding votes, including military and overseas ballots, that were counted Tuesday night, the anti-fracking petition passed by 17 votes.  Because the petition's approval was so narrow, a recount is mandatory under Colorado law.

We will continue to follow the Broomfield anti-fracking petition on the North American Shale Blog.
