Summary

For years, more than 5,000 U.S. organizations have relied upon the Privacy Shield Framework to transfer personal data from the European Union to the U.S. The Framework has allowed U.S. organizations, from colleges to manufacturers to software companies, to provide services to European customers and compete in the European market. However, on July 16, 2020, the Court of Justice of the European Union issued a landmark ruling invalidating the Privacy Shield framework and also calling into question the sufficiency of the "Standard Contractual Clauses" many U.S. organizations use to comply with GDPR.

This decision has the potential to affect every organization that transfers personal data from the European Union to the U.S. Given the importance of this decision to our clients and friends, we have prepared this brief webinar to address the following questions:

  • What does this decision mean for organizations that are Privacy Shield certified?
  • Is it still safe to use and rely upon Standard Contractual Clauses?
  • How should organizations proceed with evaluating their compliance while also continuing to run their business?
