Respondemos tres preguntas comunes sobre el Brexit que hacen las compañías en el Reino Unido y Europa. Pero las preguntas que no hacen son las más urgentes.

Mientras continúa la disputa política sobre la salida del Reino Unido (RU) de la Unión Europea (UE), la posibilidad real ante la falta de un acuerdo por el Brexit es firme. Si bien un acuerdo de salida, o incluso una cancelación del Brexit, permanece como el resultado ideal para los negocios, la decisión más inteligente que pueden tomar las compañías es la de prepararse adecuadamente para un escenario sin acuerdo.

Un tercio de los líderes empresariales que encuestamos esperan que el Brexit tenga un impacto en sus operaciones. Nuestros equipos de expertos en Europa respondieron tres preguntas comunes que realizan las compañías.

1. ¿Puedo hacer negocios a partir del 30 de marzo de 2019 con mi infraestructura actual? 

La respuesta corta es no; no sin una preparación integral si hace negocios entre Europa y el RU.

2. ¿Cuáles son los plazos establecidos para las compañías y cuán rápido puedo estar operativamente listo en una nueva jurisdicción?

Otra respuesta corta – esto depende de la jurisdicción que elige para establecerse y su industria. Hemos visto un aumento, por ejemplo, del establecimiento de entidades en cinco jurisdicciones clave de Europa. Todas ellas tienen requisitos regulatorios relativamente sencillos para comenzar un negocio, y cuentan con procesos administrativos simples que permiten nuevos negocios para estar operativo con rapidez.

Mientras tanto, el RU podría dejar la UE pero es importante destacar que el país no está condenado como mercado de negocios. Las compañías de la UE sin presencia actual se están organizando con una compañía del RU, pre-financiadas y pre-abastecidas con productos para prever cualquier dificultad en el transporte de bienes a partir del 30 de marzo.

3. ¿Cuán difícil es conseguir el talento que necesito para poder operar mi negocio en las jurisdicciones que quiero? ¿Hay disponibilidad de recursos?

Nuevamente, "depende" es la respuesta rápida. Barclays tiene planes para duplicar su nómina en sus nuevas oficinas centrales de operaciones en Dublín luego del Brexit, pero puede encontrar difícil el reclutamiento de talento local para algunas posiciones.

Mientras tanto, los empleadores del RU están armando planes de contingencia, tales como la cobertura del arancel para la solicitud del "estado asentado" (settled status, en inglés) de los trabajadores en la UE en los sectores de hospitalidad, venta minorista y salud, en un intento por prevenir el éxodo masivo de trabajadores poco calificados pero fundamentales.

Asuntos más urgentes

Es bueno que las compañías hagan preguntas como las tres detalladas anteriormente. No obstante, son preguntas demasiado básicas dado que estamos a menos de 100 días de la salida de la UE. Las compañías que han incluido al Brexit en sus planes desde hace tiempo hacen preguntas mucho más detalladas, tales como:

  • ¿Cuáles de mis contratos actuales dejan mis operaciones expuestas al Brexit?
  • ¿Todos mis proveedores dieron garantías de que tienen sus propios planes de contingencia ante el Brexit?
  • ¿Abordé todos los posibles problemas regulatorios del RU y la UE y revisé las licencias asociadas a los negocios?
  • ¿Todos mis proveedores de servicios podrán cumplir con lo que prometieron?
  • ¿Qué le ocasionará el Brexit a mi cotización bursátil?
