Mishcon de Reya's Data Protection Advisor and Chair of NADPO, Jon Baines, today delivered the keynote speech at BEIS' (Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy) GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) conference. The theme of his speech was that the GDPR doesn't change the fundamental principles of data protection, which are rooted in human rights, but that it still involves a great deal of significant change.

Delegates at the conference were from BEIS and its executive agencies and partner organisations. Commenting on the event, Jon said: "It was fascinating to hear the different perspectives of the organisations there. What's very clear is that there remains a lot of concern and uncertainty about how the law will work in practice. This is a challenge that the Data Protection group at Mishcon de Reya is already helping many organisations to deal with."

Jon was recently quoted in an article on why new rules on data protection pose compliance issues for firms.
