The " URUGUAY REEFER ", a 1993 built reefer vessel flying the Panamanian flag, sank in May 2017. It was laden with frozen fish/squid caught in the South Atlantic and reported water ingress.

So far as any recovery is concerned, we have identified the vessel's P&I Club which is based in London.

The contracts of carriage are subject to English law and jurisdiction. The vessel appears to be a one-ship owning company. Owners are attempting to open a limitation fund in the English Court. The limitation under the 1996 Protocol to the 1976 Limitation Convention (as updated in 2015) is about $9.2m. As you will be aware, commencing limitation proceedings is not an admission of liability.

We are already representing some cargo interests. If you would like assistance in dealing with any claims for recovery of your losses, please do contact us.
