Protecting your Facebook posts from unwanted media attention gets backing from press regulator IPSO.

IPSO has published new guidance on the usage by journalists of material taken from social media.

The guidance serves as a useful reminder as to the importance of retaining tight control over social media privacy settings, and what is posted. This is a welcome move by IPSO.

Natasha Hibbert, associate in our Privacy team, said: "Many social media sites update their terms of use which alters users' privacy settings. To guard against unwanted intrusion it is worth reviewing privacy settings regularly to check that they remain at the highest level. This is especially on accounts used by children and teenagers."
