On February 2, 2017, the ICO fined a UK company £20,000
for unlawfully trading personal information,
stressing that any sale of personal information must be "clear
and open." Specifically, the ICO noted that a common form of
wording used in website terms ("we may share your information
with carefully selected third parties where they are offering
products or services that we believe will be of interest to
you") was overly general and nonspecific.
