The Time to Change campaign has received a £20 million boost in additional funding from the Department of Health, Comic Relief and the Big Lottery Fund.
Time to Change is an initiative run by charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, which looks to transform how people think and act around mental health problems. One of the initiative's objectives is to encourage people to open up to mental health problems and encourage staff to talk and to listen.

Under the Equality Act 2010, employees are protected from being treated unfairly by their employer for a discriminatory reason. However, for an employee to obtain protection in relation to a mental illness, they will need to show that their mental health problem is a disability and that they have been discriminated against because of that disability. A disability for the purpose of the Equality Act 2010 is a condition that has a substantial and long-term effect on the employee's day-to-day activities. Mental health issues can be difficult to identify and diagnose.

So far, almost 400 employers have committed to implementing plans for improving mental health in the workplace. Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, said: "Tackling the stigma associated with mental health problems is essential if we are to break down barriers and encourage people to seek help before they reach crisis point."
