BIS has announced that it will introduce measures to reduce the
list of sensitive names which new businesses and charities must get
approval for prior to incorporation at Companies House.
There are currently more than 150 words and expressions on the
sensitive list which mean prior approval is required from either
Companies House, the Charity Commission or another specified body.
For the charity sector these include 'charitable', which
requires permission from the Charity Commission, and
'foundation', which requires the consent of Companies
House. Both these words will remain as sensitive expressions.
The names being removed from the list include words such as
'Human Rights', 'Authority', 'Board',
'European', 'National', 'Group' and
'International'. They will formally be removed next year.
