The real estate sector is at the heart of the sustainability debate, not least because it gives rise nearly 40% of carbon dioxide emissions through the construction and occupation of buildings. Many organisations now see their buildings as fundamental to their brand communication, staff retention and a visible reflection of how they do business. Deloitte offers a full range of sustainable property and real estate sustainability services including building carbon management, sustainable strategy and energy reduction services. We know that property is a crucial part of business performance and we aim to help our clients proactively manage risk, protect and create value and support them on sustainability leadership and investment decisions.

Building Carbon Management Services

Buildings account for a significant proportion of global carbon emissions. We provide full building carbon management services, including financial, technical and regulatory services, to help developers and occupiers manage and reduce their total carbon footprint from design to demolition.

Portfolio Assessment and Strategy

Deloitte provides a range of services to assess the sustainability performance of the portfolio. This provides real estate owners to establish baselines, benchmark the performance of buildings and monetarize indicators. This can be used to design a sustainable real estate strategy, an organizational approach and setting up the financial business case for the implementation of the energy saving measures.

Sustainable Design & Development

Deloitte provides a specialised planning and sustainable design service for sites and capital projects where sustainability is a key client or stakeholder issue. Our service extends from individual property design, to environmental master planning and even city and regional planning and development advice, including a full BREEAM assessment and advisory service.

CSR Reporting and Assurance

Organizations are more and more judged on their non-financial performance. Especially the sustainability performance is increasingly important. Reporting on these performances helps organizations to be transparent and communicative on their sustainable efforts and results. Deloitte also provides assurance on CSR indicators published in annual reports.

Example The Netherlands: Building & Portfolio Retrofit

With Building & Portfolio Retrofit, energy savings are achieved, whereby the investment is paid from the saved energy costs, through competitive procurement of energy saving measures by a private party (ESCo). The energy savings are guaranteed by the ESCo using an energy performance contract. Deloitte provides project management, financial en legal advisory services for contract preparation, tender procedure, contract close and financial close to help building owners.
