According to figures recently released by specialist Human Resources website XpertHR, seven out of 10 employers have already provided training on the Equality Act 2010 to their Human Resources teams, and a further 21% plan to do so by the autumn of 2011.

The results of XpertHR's 2011 Diversity Training Survey also show that, in the normal course of work, just over half of all employers provide training on equality law for every single member of their Human Resources teams.

Just six out of every 10 respondents to the survey said that they were wholly confident that all their team members were completely up-to-date on equality legislation and able to perform their roles effectively.

In the face of recent criticism from the Tax Payer's Alliance about diversity training for police officers being a waste of time and money, the survey also showed that 80% of those who responded to the survey said that diversity training for employees has been beneficial to the overall running of their organisation.

According to the feedback given by respondents, as long as diversity training is relevant to the organisation and can be delivered in an engaging way, it can make a real difference to the perceptions of employees and help to foster a positive culture in the workplace.
