On 16 June 2010, Energy and Climate Change minister Lord Marland published a letter to businesses asking for reasoned views on what burdens imposed by policies and regulations associated with energy and climate change should be amended, reduced or removed.
The approach of openly asking for views on what needs to be changed and what changes could be made is an interesting one, and points to a wish by DECC to engage as fully and quickly as possible with business on areas where unnecessary burdens could be addressed.
DECC highlighted that it aims to balance its critical agenda in relation to energy and climate change with its commitment to lightening the regulatory burden on the industry and achieving 'better regulation'. This should strike a positive note with business, and it will be interesting to see what issues are raised.
The deadline for responses is 1 July 2010.
