On Friday, 6 April 2018, the Acting Chief Inspector published a notice in Government Gazette No. 41561, in terms of which the previous guideline is replaced. The new guideline requires the employer to compile a code of practice dealing with various matters of medical surveillance and occupational hygiene. The new guideline is more extensive than the previous one and although the guideline is not binding but of an enabling nature, it will probably be applied in practice by the Mining Inspectorate as binding.
