No U.S. Jurisdiction Over Foreign Patents – The Federal Circuit Holds That A Plaintiff’s Reach Exceeded Its Grasp
U.S. courts should not entertain claims for infringement of foreign patents. That is what the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit held in Voda v. Cordis Corp. (05-1238), as it reviewed the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma’s order exercising supplemental jurisdiction, pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1367, over infringement claims based on foreign patents.

Conference Summary: Basel II and Basel IA: Framework, Issues and Opportunities
On December 13, 2006, Goodwin Procter LLP and Boston University School of Law’s Morin Center for Banking and Financial Law jointly presented a one-day conference in New York on Basel II and Basel IA. Speakers included representatives from all four federal banking regulators and the New York State Banking Department, the SEC, three rating agencies, affected financial institutions, trade groups and publications, as well as partners in Goodwin Procter’s Financial Services Group.

SEC Approves Soft Dollar Interpretive Release
The SEC approved the issuance of an interpretive release regarding the safe harbor afforded by Section 28(e) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, as amended. The SEC has not made the interpretive release itself available, but did issue a press release providing some details (summarized within article) regarding its forthcoming soft dollar guidance.
