On 1 July 2019, the new electricity market was launched in Ukraine. A recent article in Kyiv Post discusses the current situation in the market and the challenges faced.

Svitlana Teush, Head of the Construction and Renewable Energy Focus Group at Redcliffe Partners, contributed her comments on this topic. She noted the new market being in a transitional stage and not fully operational, with substantial administrative interference. Svitlana also emphasised – amongst other matters – the need for solutions to be developed without delay in order to mitigate the impact on industrial consumers caused by a recent increase in the transmission tariff which can adversely affect other market participants, as well as the need to improve competition and liquidity in market segments.
