The Ministry of Energy published the Natural Gas Storage Public Policy, where among others it establishes that CENAGAS must have a five-day strategic inventory of natural gas storage (equivalent to 45 BCF) by 2026.

We inform you that on March 28th, 2018, the Ministry of Energy published the Natural Gas Storage Public Policy, where among others it establishes that CENAGAS must have a five-day strategic inventory of natural gas storage (equivalent to 45 BCF) by 2026. Furthermore, it requires CENAGAS to develop storage infrastructure through public bids, starting on 2018, with the first public bid for storage capacity of 10 BCF on strategic inventory. As long as this new infrastructure is not developed, CENAGAS is entitled to perform any required action to secure access on existing storage infrastructure in the country.

It is important to mention that the associated costs with the development of the new infrastructure will be initially socialized among the users of the following transportation systems: SISTRANGAS, Ojinaga- El Encino, San Isidro-Guadalajara, Sásabe-Mazatlán and Mayakan. Other transportation systems may be included afterwards for these purposes.

Additionally, the Policy establishes new obligations to file information by permit holders in this regard.
