On 7th December 1999 the Italian Communications Authority issued a decision on the introduction of carrier preselection. This decision provides for the introduction of equal access carrier preselection :
- starting from 1st January 2000, for all long distance, international and fixed-to-mobile calls,
- starting from 1st July 2000 for local calls (1st May 2000, for the Rome area and 1st June 2000, for the Milan area),
- Before 30th April 2000, the authority shall issue further guidelines in order to allow customers to pre-select a certain operator for each type of call (local, long distance, international, etc).
