Coal imports into India from Indonesia, South Africa and Australia have already reduced pursuant to the increased production of domestic coal. Coal India Limited (CIL) in order to further augment the domestic coal production now proposes to take up 129 new coal mining projects for taking the ultimate coal production capacity to 458 million tonnes per annum during the XII Five Year Plan.
Approval has already been received for 21 coal mining projects and the in-principle approval for 20 coal mining projects has been received. The additional coal produced from the new coal mines will improve the availability of domestic coal in India.
In order to improve air transportation in India, the Government of India has proposed the setting up of a second airport near the national capital region of Delhi.
In this regard, the Government of India has already received the following proposals for grant of Site Clearance for undertaking the second airport project:
(i) The first proposal is for setting up of a greenfield airport at Kotkasim Tehsil in Alwar district of Rajasthan which will have both passenger and gargo operations. This proposal has been made by the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited. The Steering Committee on greenfield airports has already considered the proposal and has recommended the same to the Ministry of Civil Aviation for grant of 'site clearance' for the project.
(ii) The second proposal is for setting up of a cargo airport in Rohtak district of Haryana. Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited submitted this proposal. The Steering Committee considered the proposal submitted by Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited for setting up the cargo airport and it advised that the proposal be revised for setting up of a full-fledged commercial airport instead of an airport with only cargo operations.
